I was in Cardiff for a meeting and had an hour to grab lunch. I was right next to St David’s anyway so headed to the food court area. I was surprised and delighted to find the American brand Shake Shack.
I want sure if they were known for burgers but it was first on the menu and had some unique offerings so I thought why not?
I usually like to compare apples to apples and would usually go for the cheese burger but the Shackmeister caught my eye.
That’s right “ale freid shallots” in top of a cheese burger with some kind of special sauce. Yes please. With no expectation, not even having seen a photo I went for a single burger and a drink, half and half homemade lemonade and iced tea.
As you can see from the photo the burger appears small, but looks can be deceiving because what it lacks in size it makes up for in decadence.
The bun was a very rich buttery brioche, almost sweet in flavour and texture. Like a a cake.
As the shallots and cheese and burger were fairly fatty this added to the overall moiste bite and mouth feel with just some lettuce to add a little crunch quickly mopped up with even more sauce.
It definitely didn’t leave me wanting. 1 small burger was enough. It was also good enough that it stood out as something different. I’d certainly eat again.
