Kansas City Stack, McDonald’s

Our Rating
8.1

OK OK, does a McDonald’s burger even need a review? I mean millions of people have probably eaten this particular burger already, so does it need a review?

Well yes, because a) I like to read reviews of the specials and b) I’m eating one and I’ll be damned if I’m not gonna take advantage of that sweet, sweet content.

So yeah, the Kansas City Stack. Don’t be expecting too much here.

We have a seasoned bun, 2 big mac style patties, cheese, bacon, Smokey Steakhouse sauce and crispy dried onions (and a bit of curly lettuce).

About the bun, McDonald’s actually calls this a “BBQ Inclusion Single Water Split Bun”. A whatnow?

So what is a BBQ Inclusion Single Water Split Bun? Well it has all these lovely ingredients:

WHEAT Flour (contains Calcium, Iron, Niacin, Thiamine), Water, Sugar, Seasoning (Rice Semolina, Salt, Toasted Onion Powder, Natural Flavourings, Colours (Plain Caramel, Paprika Extract), Dried Garlic, Paprika, Smoked Paprika, Smoked Yeast, Potato Maltodextrin, Acid (Citric Acid), Acidity Regulator (Sodium Diacetate), Smoked Maltodextrin, Anti-Caking Agent (Calcium Silicate), Rapeseed Oil, Smoked Salt, Smoke Flavouring), Rapeseed Oil, Salt, Yeast, Emulsifier (Mono- and Diacetyl Tartaric Acid Esters of Mono- and Diglycerides of Fatty Acids), Antioxidant (Ascorbic Acid).
Potential Allergen Ingredient:N.B. May contain traces of sesame seeds, milk, barley and rye.

Yummy.

The overall taste is the usual weird fake McDonald’s taste, dry burger patties (well done, obvs) and of course lots and lots of salt, sugar and MSG (it may not be in the burger itself, but it’s there somewhere – I can feel it the next day).

I do like the speed and consistency of McDonald’s, and I even think their signature collection is OK but the more quality burgers I eat the less impressed I am with the usual mix when it includes the trademark patties, they just don’t taste like beef to me anymore.

Here’s the nutritional breakdown if you’re interested, but lets be honest you probably aren’t if you’re eating a maccies. Note the 12g of sugar (4 teaspoons), 3.3g of salt (half your daily), and the 38g of fat.

I am a burger fanatic, love junk food in general but there's something special about a burger. I am owner and chief burger taster for this website.
